Oaks Baseball Rally From Behind to Hand Sonoma State’s First Loss, 18-9.

ATHERTON, CA – It was an offensive showdown at Cartan Field on Tuesday afternoon when the Sonoma State SeaWolves faced the Oaks. A Jaden Fulsher 2-run homer to equalize would only begin what ended in an 18 run rally from behind to hand Sonoma State their first loss of the season. Menlo featured 8 different pitchers on the mound with Nick Liechty credited the win and Cody Carson with the save. Menlo Baseball now prepares for conference play beginning on Friday.

Oaks Rally Had Cartan Roaring

Menlo would fall to an 1-8 deficit into the 4th inning when things really began rolling for the Oaks. The 4th inning would score Sage Pera off of a Jaden Fulsher single to left field and score Justin Flannery after Zach Dyer was able to get the ball in play. DJ Scott would lead off the 5th inning with his second home run of the day to inch the Seawolves lead to 5-8. Jonathan Charbonea was the next hitter with Pera and Carter Harris on base. The designated hitter did his job and sacrifice flew out to score Harris.

The equalizer came in the 7th when Jaden Fulsher homered out of left to score Charboneau as well, making it 8-8. From there, the Oaks had full control of their offense and scored 6 more runs off of picky hitting. After Fulsher, Pera kept the rally alive with the go-ahead single to left center to score 2 and make it 10-8. Justin Flannery also wanted to be a part of the fun and doubled down the left line to clear the bases and score Pera and Scott. Charboneau made it on base for the second time in the 7th off of a single up the middle to score Flannery. Fulsher batted Jonathan home for another time with a double to left center to make it 14-8. The last bit of scoring was in the 8th inning with a 2-RBI single from Carter Harris, another Pera RBI, and a Flannery single to finish off the game, 18-9.

Across the 8 pitchers the Oaks put on the mound, there were 7 strikeouts over Sonoma State hitters. Nicholas Liechty was credited the win going 1 inning pitched, 1 strikeout, and only one hit allowed. Cody Carson would close out the 9th only facing 4 batters and securing the win.
