Another Offensive Battle From Oaks Baseball Falls in Favor of East Bay

ATHERTON, CA – Menlo Baseball hosted Cal State East Bay for game two of the three-game series as the Oaks final preseason series before Conference play. Menlo showed great offensive moments but were not able to pull off the comeback in the 8-11 loss to the Pioneers. The Oaks will get one more chance against Cal State East Bay in Hayward on Sunday.

Late Rally Falls Short

Scoring began early on both sides and a 2 RBI double from Jaden Fulsher in the 2nd inning would put the Oaks on the board and even things up, 2-2. Zach Dyer followed up with a single through the left side to score Fulsher and land safely at first and go ahead, 3-2. The Pioneers responded immediately and ran up the score 10-3. The 6th inning brought some energy when Jonathan Charboneau doubled to lead off the inning. Dominic Anderson-Nakagawa followed up with a single up the middle to score Charboneau.

East Bay would shut down the game until the 8th inning when the Oaks were able to add 4 more runs. Nakagawa-Anderson began the rally with his first home run of the season. Sage Pera then singled to left center to bring home Dyer and advance DJ Scott to second. One more single from Sean Petterner would score Scott but would not be enough to pull off the comeback. Menlo totaled 15 quality hits as a team against the Pioneers today which proves their offense is skilled enough to win games. Head Coach Alex Hoover will have a lot to take into their final game of the series to try to prevent the sweep against the Oaks.

The Oaks saw four different pitchers on the mound today, starting with Frank Grant. After going 3 innings pitched, Charles Williams would go for an inning before Brendan Moreno would find control. Moreno went 4 innings pitched and totaled 4 strikeouts and only 1 walk.
