ATHERTON, CA – In an intense PacWest opener, Menlo Men's Basketball battled fiercely but ultimately fell to Azusa Pacific, 64-74. Playing at Haynes-Prim Pavilion in front of an energized crowd, the Oaks showed resilience but struggled to capitalize on key moments against a tough Cougars squad. The game provided an exciting glimpse into the competitive spirit of the PacWest conference.

Relentless Efforts Fall Short
Menlo displayed tenacity and resilience in their PacWest opener, staying competitive throughout a game marked by intense battles on both ends of the court. The Oaks showed a strong second-half surge, outscoring Azusa Pacific 38-37 in the final period, a testament to their never-quit attitude and ability to adjust under pressure.
The Oaks' ball movement was a highlight, leading to 18 assists compared to the Cougars' 12. Their defense also stepped up, forcing 15 turnovers and grabbing 8 steals, which translated into 14 points off turnovers. Menlo excelled in transition as well, outpacing Azusa Pacific in fast-break points, 3-2.
Menlo's balanced scoring attack and hustle on the boards were evident, with Landon Seaman and Kareem Rowe combining for 17 rebounds, contributing to the team's total of 32. While Azusa Pacific had an edge in points in the paint, Menlo's perimeter defense limited their three-point shooting to just 17%. The Oaks also demonstrated composure at the free-throw line, hitting 71% of their attempts, keeping the game within reach until the final minutes.
