Menlo Women's Volleyball Shines on Senior Night in a Thrilling Five Set Victory Over Azusa Pacific

Atherton, CA – In a high energy class inside of Haynes-Prim Pavilion, the Oaks of Menlo College Volleyball emerged victorious in a vicious five set battle against Azusa Pacific. The Oaks also hosted their senior night and showed the fans a thrilling display of determination and teamwork.
 

Five-Set Thriller
The first set between Menlo College and Azusa Pacific was a nail-biter, with Menlo edging out a 25-23 victory. Both teams showed strong defensive and offensive plays, trading points throughout the set and keeping fans on the edge of their seats. The set reached its climax with Menlo pulling ahead at 24-23, and the Oaks were able to secure the set with a decisive block that lifted Menlo to a thrilling 1-0 lead in the match. In the second set, Azusa Pacific bounced back with a determined effort, outlasting Menlo to take the set 21-25. The Cougars quickly established a rhythm with precise attacks and consistent service, putting Menlo on the defensive. The Cougars' resilience tied the match at one set apiece, setting up an intense third set as both teams vied for control of the match. The third set saw Azusa Pacific come out strong, executing a series of well-timed kills and maintaining a high level of defensive pressure that challenged Menlo's offensive rhythm. Menlo's offense attempted to break through with aggressive attacks, however the Cougars defense proved formidable as they took the set 18-25 taking a 1-2 set lead. In a must-win fourth set, Menlo demonstrated determination and tactical precision to edge out Azusa Pacific, 25-21. With each point carrying high stakes, Menlo's disciplined approach helped them find consistency, adjusting both offensively and defensively to control the flow of play. The Oaks' rotation adapted smoothly to Azusa Pacific's adjustments, allowing them to sustain extended rallies and maintain pressure on their opponents. In the final set, Menlo would clinch a nail-biting finish that had the fans on their feet. It seemed as if the Cougars were going to pull through, but the Oaks responded with powerful blocks and kills that secured the 15-12 set win to secure the upset victory.
 

Seniors Shine on Senior Night
Senior Ayanna Barham was the driving force behind Menlo's victory, delivering an exceptional all-around performance. As the team's leading scorer, Barham recorded a remarkable 25 kills with a .305 hitting percentage, showcasing her offensive prowess and consistency. Ayanna also contributed to Menlo's defense as she tallied 18 digs on the night. Fellow senior Hannah Torres also made significant contributions, racking up 18 kills and adding valuable points in clutch situations as well as the final point to seal the match. Maya Saole-Su'e was another key attacker, totaling 15 kills and adding defensive support with 10 digs and 5 blocks. Her all-around performance was essential to Menlo's balanced play on both ends of the court. On the playmaking side, Paige Harmann was a standout, recording 34 assists and setting up the team's attackers with precision. Harmann's ability to read the game and create scoring opportunities was a driving force behind Menlo's offensive success. These star performances highlighted Menlo's depth and versatility, proving instrumental in their thrilling five-set victory and exemplifying the teamwork that defined the night's success.
