Oaks Volleyball Falls to the Sunbirds in Four Sets

Atherton, CA –Menlo Women's Volleyball put up a spirited effort against Fresno Pacific University inside of Haynes-Prim Pavilion. In a hard-fought four-set match, Menlo would end up dropping the match despite strong performance and intense rallies that kept the crowd on the edge of their seats.
 

Looking at Each Set
The first set of the match saw Menlo go head-to-head in an intense opening match. Menlo would keep putting on pressure with powerful plays and sharp defense that would set the tone for a competitive evening. Fresno Pacific however would gain momentum and win the set 18-25. The second set saw the Oaks show incredible grit and determination against the Sunbirds. Menlo's offense was firing on all cylinders with powerful kills and orchestrated sets to keep Menlo in the game. The set featured numerous lead changes and ties as both teams fought for control, but the Oaks were able to close out the set 28-26 to tie the match 1-1. After an electrifying second set that the Oaks captured, the third set saw Fresno Pacific reassert control with a commanding 10-25 set win to make the match 1-2. In the fourth set, the Oaks put up a fierce fight with exceptional determination as they battled going back and forth, creating fourteen ties and multiple lead changes that kept the crow on their feet. Menlo's offense reawakened, but it just was not enough as the Sunbirds were able to clinch the set and ultimately the match, three sets to one.
 

Standout Oaks
Leading the pack offensively for the Oaks was Maya Saole-Su'e as she stood out with a stellar 15 kills and an impressive .387 hitting percentage. Saole Su'e also tallied 2 blocks defensively which consistently challenged the Sunbirds offense. Paige Harmann served as the playmaker for Menlo, registering 27 assists and distributing the ball with precision to keep Fresno Pacific on their toes. Defensively, Faith Oller was instrumental as she led the team with 18 digs. Oller's exceptional effort kept several key rallies alive and helped Menlo stay competitive in the match. Janet Moala also made an impact at the net with 5 total blocks, adding another layer of defense against Fresno Pacific's attacks. These players set a solid foundation for the team's upcoming matches as they continue to compete in the PacWest Conference.
