Oaks Fall to Biola in a Hard-Fought Battle

La Mirada, CA – Menlo Women's Volleyball team was scheduled for a PacWest matchup against Biola University inside of the Chase Gymnasium. The Oaks displayed a determined effort in a tough road match but would ultimately fall.
 

Fighting for Every Point
In the first set, the Oaks came out with energy early in the set, battling Biola in a tightly contested set that included seven ties along with five lead changes, Menlo offense was on display as powerful kills kept pressure on Biola. The Oaks serving also proved to be effective as the Oaks recorded 2 service aces in the set. Despite their efforts offensively and defensively, Menlo would drop the set 18-25. In the second set, Menlo continued their competitive play against Biola. The set showcased the Oaks ability to maintain intensity, as they kept the score close through powerful attacks and strategic plays. In a valiant effort to find momentum, the Oaks were unable to take the set from Biola 20-25. The third set was a high-stakes battle that showcased Menlo's resilience. The set was marked by intense rallies as well as seven ties, with Menlo's determination keeping the score close throughout. The Oaks defense was consistently digging Biola's attacks and providing solid support for the team. However, Biola would edge out the set, narrowly defeating the Oaks 21-25. The Oaks left an impression of strength and cohesiveness, showing that they are able to stand to-to-toe with tough competition.
 

Star Performers
Giulia Marinelli led the Oaks offense for the night with 12 kills and a strong .231 hitting percentage, showing consistency and accuracy in attack that kept Menlo competitive. Paige Harmann was the main setter for the Oaks, amassing 24 assists and orchestrating the offense with precision. Faith Oller was the anchor for Menlo's defense, leading the team with 14 digs. At the net, Keely Grant and Maya Saole-Su'e were instrumental in Menlo's blocking game, combining for six blocks that kept Biola on its toes. Together, these star performers exemplified Menlo's competitive spirit and their team cohesion.
