Menlo Women's Volleyball Unable to Get Past Dominican University

SAN RAFAEL, CA – Menlo Women's Volleyball headed up north in order to take on the Penguins of Dominican University of California for a PacWest showdown inside of the Conlan Center. Despite their grit and determination, the Oaks would fall to the Penguins in a four-set battle.
 

Summary of Each Set
The opening set was a test of endurance and execution. The Oaks started off strong with Menlo's attackers hitting with precision and the defense chipping in key digs. The set saw eight tied scores, but the Penguins would surge on to take the first set. Menlo turned the tide in the second set with multiple Oaks pushing to keep the offense flowing, the Oaks would hold on to take the second set 25-22 and would even the match 1-1. Set three was another tight battle, with Menlo's front line showcasing resilience against Dominican's attacks. Dominican, however, leaned on their middle blockers whose crucial blocks shifted momentum. Menlo pushed hard but fell just short as Dominican secured the set 23-25. The final set encapsulated the match's intensity, with both teams trading points down to the wire.. The Oaks were able to accumulate multiple kill opportunities, but Dominican's defense tightened up as the set saw multiple lead changes. Menlo fended off match points with tenacity, but a final kill from Dominican sealed the Oaks' fate in a 24-26 heartbreaker to close out the match.
 

Key Performers
Ayanna Barham was a crucial force both offensively and defensively, delivering 15 kills and 16 digs against Dominican's toughest attacks. Her serving was also a highlight as she was able to earn 3 aces in the match. Hannah Torres was able to lead the Oaks in kills with 17 and earned 3 blocks. Her powerful swings kept Dominican's defense on their heels, and she consistently found gaps in the opponent's block. Paige Harmann was the main setter and floor general, Harmann's playmaking abilities were on full display as she snagged 21 assists and 3 aces. Harmann's precision setting created numerous scoring opportunities, and her serving sparked crucial runs for the Oaks. These performances reflect the promise and potential of Menlo's squad as they continue to develop.

The Oaks will head back into Haynes-Prim Pavilion as they will host their final home match of the season. First serve will be against Biola University Wednesday, November 20th at 6PM PST.
