Oaks Women's Volleyball Falls to Westmont in Three Sets

Santa Barbara, CA – Menlo Women's Volleyball headed down to Southern California in order to take on Westmont College inside of Murchison Gymnasium. The Oaks put up a valiant effort, pushing their hosts to close finishes in three sets but would ultimately fall to Westmont.
 

Battling for Every Point
In the first set, the Oaks faced early challenges defensively as Westmont would push for aggressive offensive plays. The Oaks were able to go point for point with their serving and forcing Westmont into multiple attacking errors. However, the Oaks were unable to catch up and dropped the set 21-25. In the second set, the Oaks and Westmont battled out for the lead multiple times, with Menlo ushing Westmont to five ties throughout. Menlo's offense continued to shine as the ball was distributed effectively, setting up plays that allowed their team to keep the pressure on Westmont's defense. The set reached a thrilling climax, as Menlo held a brief lead before Westmont made a final push and taking the set 22-25. The third set saw the closest and most thrilling of the night, with Menlo pushing Westmont to the limit before narrowly falling 23-25. Menlo's determination and defense stayed strong which provided consistent back-row coverage and racked up digs to keep the ball in play. As the set came down to the wire, the Oaks kept rallying back from small deficits to bring the score close to the final points. Small errors combined with Westmont's defensive play decided the final points of the match.
 
 

Star Performers
Senior setter Paige Harmann returned to the lineup as the main play maker and had an impactful game, orchestrating the offense with 27 assists. Keely Grant also made an impact offensively hitting a .625 percentage. Defensively, Faith Oller proved indispensable with 11 digs in the match. Fellow libero Julia Tena also accumulated 9 digs as well as 2 service aces, further reinforcing the Oaks' back row. Maya Saole-Su'e also proved as an important factor overall as she collected 7 kills as well as 2 block assists. The Oaks star performers kept Menlo competitive throughout the match and made significant contributions on both offense and defense.
