Oaks Remain in Win Column After Road Shutout Victory Over Academy of Art

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Menlo Women's Soccer continued its win streak with a 2-0 shutout over Academy of Art on Saturday afternoon at Treasure Island Field. With their disciplined defense and opportunistic offense, the Oaks clinched a convincing win against the Urban Knights.

Menlo Stays in Win Column

Menlo opened the scoring late in the first half when Olivia Parlato found the back of the net off an impressive over-the-top cross from Verenia Gonzalez, putting the Oaks up 1-0. Menlo's relentless pressure carried over into the second half, as Haley Dunham scored on a penalty kick in the 55th minute, solidifying Menlo's lead. The play began from the back line and was played up to Lyla Devereaux who drove into the box. A hard foul from the Urban Knight defender gave Menlo the opportunity to convert a reassurance goal and keep the lead. The Oaks' defense held strong, with goalie Giorgia Melcore making key saves to keep Academy of Art scoreless.

Oak Standouts

Verenia Gonzalez is coming off of an outstanding performance against Cal Maritime after earning her first collegiate hat trick over the Keelhaulers. Today' efforts were very similar, having given Parlato a perfectly timed pass to give her a scoring chance. Olivia scored her second goal of the season today after her first came against Jessup just a few matches ago. Haley Dunham has totaled 3 goals so far this season and all three took place in the last two matches. The junior forward was another shining star against Cal Maritime having earned a brace in the last 15 minutes of the match. It was another amazing team effort from Menlo!

This match saw Menlo take seven shots, four of which were on goal, while Academy of Art recorded ten shots, with six on target. Both teams engaged in a competitive battle, with Menlo earning one corner kick and Academy of Art three. Menlo committed seven fouls and received one yellow card, while Academy of Art tallied five fouls. Each team's goalie made essential stops, with Menlo's Melcore recording six saves and earned the shutout, her third of the season.

Up next….

The Oaks look forward to their next home match against Vanguard University on Thursday, October 31st, at 4:00pm on Wunderlich Field, where they hope to extend their winning streak in front of their fans on Halloween!
