Menlo Women's Volleyball Closes Out an Outstanding 3-1 Win Against Vanguard

Atherton, CA – Menlo Women's Volley secured a crucial victory against the Lions of Vanguard University in a thrilling four-set match inside of Haynes-Prim Pavilion. An important conference win for the Oaks as it allows them to continue this momentum into more conference match ups.
 

Every Point Matters
The first set was a highly competitive set with eight ties and two lead changes, showcasing the back-and-forth battle between the two teams. However, Menlo was able to continuously find openings in Vanguard's defense. The Oaks collected 15 kills in the set with a .278 hitting percentage which demonstrated their efficiency at the net. Defensively the Oaks excelled at with collecting 6 blocks in the set, allowing them to close out the set 25-22. The second set saw Vanguard bounce back, the Lions adjusted after losing the first set and forced errors which slowed down Menlo's momentum. The Lions would end up taking the second set 20-25. The third set was the most thrilling of all. The set featured 11 ties and 4 critical lead changes that determined the outcome of the set. The Oaks hit an outstanding .393 hitting percentage with 13 kills. Despite their offensive efficiency, the Lions pushed Menlo all the way beyond 25 points. Menlo was able to keep their composure and collect the last two points and won a critical set 27-25. The fourth and final set was yet another nail-biter. The Oaks started off the set slow but was able to match Vanguard's energy. After trailing the entire set, Menlo was able to finally take the lead late 21-20 going into the final points.. With the match being 24-24, Keely Grant decided to take things into her own hands. Grant closed out the match with two clean service aces, allowing the Oaks to win the last set 26-24. The match demonstrated Menlo's ability to perform with resilience in high-pressure situations, securing their hard-earned victory.
 

Torres Slamming It Down
Hannah Torres was the key offensive player for the Oaks. Torres led Menlo in kills with 23 while hitting a very impressive .391 hitting percentage, she now has 195 kills season and is tied for the most in the PacWest Conference! Beatrice Manzon played a pivotal role in orchestrating Menlo's offense with 46 Assists, while also snagging 3 blocks defensively. Giulia Marinelli also contributed to Menlo's offense by collecting 12 kills in the match. Janet Moala also dominated both offensively and defensively, recording 9 kills and leading the team with and insane 5 blocks in the match! Keely Grant contributed 6 kills, 3 blocks, along with 2 aces to keep Menlo's offense on a roll. These players were instrumental in Menlo's victory as they showed offensive and defensive strength throughout the match.

Following their hard-fought win, the Oaks will look to continue their momentum against Concordia University Irvine.
