Women’s Soccer Falls to Firestorm in Close Matchup, 1-2.

ATHERTON, CA – Women's Soccer put up a tough fight but ultimately fell to the Arizona Christian Firestorm, 1-2. Haley Dunham scored her 4th goal of the season, 3rd header goal, in the 78th minute off of a cross from Kiran Pooni. It is still early in conference play and the Oaks are on the road next to face off The Master's next.

Dunham Builds Momentum With Late Oaks Goal

The match remained at 0-2 in favor of the Firestorm until late in the 78th minute. Kiran Pooni regained possession for the Oaks in their offensive third. After taking space and dribbling to the endline, Pooni lofted a cross to the near post to find forward Haley Dunham. Arizona Christian's goalkeeper got a touch on the ball but Dunham was able to keep her composure to finish through with her header and find the back of the net. This would account for Haley's fourth goal of the season and third goal finished with her head.

Close Matchup on Both Sides

It was a pretty even matchup between the Oaks and the Firestorm on both offense and defense. Menlo fired off 17 shots, 11 of them in the second half, and 8 were on frame. The Firestorm similarly shot off 14 shots, also 8 on goal. Giorgia Melcore started the first half to tally 2 saves and Madeline Costa completed the second half to add 4 more saves to the Oaks 6 total. Arizona Christian's goalkeeper had 7 saves against Menlo. Menlo had 6 corner kicks with 3 of them happening in the final minute of the match. It was back and forth with late momentum building for the Oaks, but they were unable to score the equalizer in the end.
