SANTA CLARITA, CA – In over 100 degree weather, Menlo Women's Soccer pulls through a nil-nil match against The Master's University. The match required mandated water breaks to sooth the scorching conditions of Southern California turf. The Oaks come back to Atherton satisfied with a tie to make their record 1-5-1.
Melcore Earns Second Shutout of Season
Giorgia Melcore was the Oaks starting Goalkeeper once again and was able to keep the Mustangs from scoring. Melcore tallied a season high 8 saves to add to her 32 so far in 2023. The sophomore out of Milan, Italy is second in the GSAC with 4.57 saves per game. The match today required technical focus through the tough circumstances to grind out this tie and Melcore showed that!
Oaks Team Defense Controls Mustangs
Menlo was on the defensive side of the ball for more than half of the match against The Master's. The defensive Oaks stayed as a unit and were able to clear many goal-scoring opportunities while the Mustangs were on the attack. Taryn Thalhamer held the back line to a high standard while stepping up to orchestrate her teammates. Central midfielders, Lyla Devereaux and Kawai Acopan, were both emptying their gas tanks in a valiant effort to close down on The Master's attacking efforts. With only a few chances allowed on the Oaks attack, it was the defense that held the score at 0.
