ATHERTON, CA – Men's Soccer is now 2-0 in GSAC play after taking down the Arizona Christian Firestorm after trailing at halftime. The Oaks can thank sophomore Johan Mendoza Aguilar for the pair of finesse goals to bring home the win!
Oaks Respond Quickly After Halftime to Take the Lead From Firestorm
This match was competitive from the start and Menlo's offense was firing on all cylinders. The score was held 0-0 until the Firestorm scored a late goal in the first half (42'). This began a rampage from Menlo's offense because right out of the gates Menlo put up three shots within five minutes. Outside back, Roy Rosenberg, regained possession in the Oaks offensive third in the 54th minute when he chose to drive to the endline. With teammates crashing in the box, Rosenberg found connection with midfielder Johan Mendoza Aguilar to place in the back of the net. This equalizer resulted from high pressure up the field from Menlo.
Just four minutes later, Rosenberg dribbled up the left sideline once again and laid off to Levin Ledergerber. A hard shot from the midfielder was deflected from Arizona Christian's goalkeeper. Aguilar was able to find the rebound and hit the goal for his second of the match! This is Johans second game-winning goal this season, his first against Simpson earlier in preseason. Roy Rosengber has become a utility for the Oaks with his ability to drive from the back line to add chances on offense while also providing security on defense when needed. An outstanding performance from Rosenberg and Aguilar to bring the Oaks from behind.
Krumsvik's Performances Land Him on Top of GSAC Leaderboard
After 720 minutes played by starting goalkeeper, Jo Krumsvik, he has a goals against average of .625. This average lands him at #1 in the GSAC after 8 games played. Krumsvik had a diving punch off of a Firestorm corner late in the match to keep the Oaks in the lead. He showed great athleticism and took some aggressive plays to protect Menlos goal. The junior out of Bergen, Norway is now 5-0-4 this season.
