Softball On Track to Secure GSAC Playoff Spot After Split with San Diego Christian.

ATHERTON, CA -- Menlo Softball is inching their way closer and closer to a GSAC playoff berth after they split their doubleheader against San Diego Chrsitian. Game 1 went to the Hawks 5-1 and Game 2 was secured by the Oaks 4-2.

Game 1: Menlo 1 - 5 SDCC
The Hawks overpowered the Oaks in Game 1 despite Menlo hitting 6 hits off of Medina of San Diego. Menlo's lone run of the first game was in the top of the 3rd inning. Sofia Quintero (1-2, 1 run scored) opened the inning with a double down the left line. Jolena Velasquez (1-3, 1 RBI) executed a sacrifice fly to the center fielder to score Quintero to make it 3-1 at the time. Velasquez now has 9 RBI this season and 6 of those happened during GSAC conference play. Jolena continues to be a leader for the Oaks in the stats and on the field!

Game 2: Menlo 4 - 2 SDCC (9 innings)
Menlo responded well after falling to San Diego with a 4-2 victory in the second game. The Oaks were able to tally 13 hits off of the Hawks pitcher in an all-out effort to get closer to securing a GSAC playoffs spot. Menlo's first run came in the top of the 3rd inning. Alyssa Rodne (1-3, 1 run scored) began the inning with a single up the middle to get on base. Sofia Quintero (1-3, 1 run scored) was able to get the bunt down for a sacrifice ground out to advance Rodne to third base. Bella Cortez (1-5, 1 RBI) singled to the shortstop to bat in Rodne for the first run of the game! It was a rally at that point when Jolena Velasquez reached on a fielder's choice and Emma Medina singled to the shortstop. Hailey Roloff RBI singled to center field to score Velasquez to make it 2-0 to close the 3rd inning.

The score continued to be 2-2 into 9 innings when Menlo was able to power through and earn their final two runs of the game and secure the win. Sofia Quintero was placed at second base for the Oaks to begin the inning. Jolena Velasquez was up to bat with 1 out. She pulled off the RBI single to center field to bring home Quintero to make it 3-2. And Emma Medina singled to left center field to also send Velasquez home to earn the Oaks 4th run and ultimately end with the victory.
