ATHERTON, CA -- Menlo Softball showed up on their senior day to compete against the #24 ranked Hope International. The Oaks took Game 1 with an early held lead of 3-1. Game 2 went into extra innings and Hope International found a way to victory in the end.

Game 1: Menlo 3 - 1 Hope
Menlo opened the 1st inning scoring their 3 runs early. Jada Takara singled to left field to lead the inning off. After advancing from a Jolena Velasquez bunt, Grace Christian was up to bat with a runner in scoring position. She RBI singled through the right side to bring Takara home for the first Oaks run. Emma Medina followed that up with a RBI triple to score Christian and get on base. And after a failed pick off by the Royals catcher, Medina stole home to punish the error. That gave Menlo the early lead and they were able to keep it until the end!

In the top of the 3rd inning, senior third baseman Alexandra Attard had an incredible bare-handed diving put-out to first base off of an awkward infield hit to get the second out of the inning! Attard has been a part of 28 putouts this season and totals 45 assists so far this season which is one of the highest on the team. She is only 1 of 2 Oaks that still have a 1.000 fielding percentage, the other one being Jadalee Takara.

Game 2: Menlo 2 - 3 Hope
Menlo scored their two runs early in Game 2 as well but Hope International took it to 8 innings and pulled off the victory in the end. All of the Oaks runs came in the bottom of the 1st again. Jadalee Takara started off and was walked by the Royals. Grace Christian singled again to the right fielder who put out a wild throw giving Takara the chance to score. She slid into home and with help from the catcher bobbling the ball, was able to successfully score the first run of the game. Grace advanced to second off of the throw as well. Emma Medina came through with a single up the left field line to score Christian in to make it 2-0. Vivian Valencia went 7.1 innings pitched in Game 2 and earned 6 strikeouts.

Hope International scored 2 runs in the top of the 3rd inning. Menlo was able to hold it at 2-2 in regular innings so it went to extra's! In the 8th, Hope's successful bunt advanced their runners to third and second base. A sacrifice fly scored them their winning run to make it 3-2 and Menlo could not come up with a response.
