Menlo Softball Drops Exciting Doubleheader to OUAZ, 2-1 and 3-2.

SURPRISE, AZ -- Menlo Softball made it a close battle with OUAZ but fell short in both sides of the doubleheader. Grace Christian continues to stay hot for the Oaks to keep them in it!

Game 1: Menlo 1 - 2 OUAZ
It was a scoreless game until the 7th and final inning of the game where the Oaks made the first points on the board. Bella Cortez reached 1st base off of a single to center field. Veteran Senior, Grace Christian, took her opportunity and doubled to center field to score Cortez for the RBI. Grace Christian hit two doubles just in Game 1 and went 2-3. Menlo was held to just the 1 run in the first game and OUAZ responded in the bottom with 2 runs scored to overtake the victory.

Vivian Valencia was the starting pitcher for Game 1. She went 4.1 innings pitched with 3 strikeouts. Brianna Gonzalez also made a 2-inning run adding 2 more strikeouts under her belt. The Oaks allowed 7 hits in the first game but only let 2 runs score.

Game 2: Menlo 2 - 3 OUAZ
Grace Christian wasn't done for the day going into Game 2. After a single from both Emma Medina and Maya Bivens-Sommerville to get the Oaks going in the 1st inning, Christian had two runners in scoring position coming up to the plate. She ended up doubling once more to center field to score Medina and earn another RBI. In an effort to also score, Bivens-Sommerville was caught at home to end their openning inning run, but the Medina score still counted to keep Menlo on the board.

In the top of the 6th inning, Menlo needed a rally because they trailing by 3 runs to OUAZ. Maya had another single to get on base at first. Lara Edeker pinch ran for Sommerville and ended up stealing second base right away. Emma Wilson brought Edeker home with an RBI single to right field. It gave Menlo a quick spark of hope but OUAZ was able to hold their lead to the very end.
