Baseball Falls to Sonoma State University, 9-3

Oaks

ROHNERT PARK, CA

The Oaks traveled north across the Golden Gate Bridge and into wine country for a game against the Seawolves today, ultimately losing by a score of 9-3. Their overall record is now 4-18.

On the Mound

Sophomore right-hander Chase Barsotti served as an "opener" for Menlo today. Barsotti pitched the first 2.0 innings of the game, facing a total of 10 batters. In that time, he allowed no hits or runs while also striking out 1 Seawolf. Last season, he was most frequently used as a late-inning reliever or closer, but has been deployed in an array of roles for the Oaks this season.

Menlo's final 2 pitchers of the day were also solid in relief. Sophomore Taylor Yuki pitched 1.1 total innings, allowing no runs while striking out 2 batters. The final 2.0 innings of work went to right-hander Christian Pedersen, who joined the varsity roster from the developmental team late last season and has established a permanent role in the top squad this year. Across 7 batters faced, he struck out 2 and allowed just 1 hit while creating 3 flyouts and 1 groundout.

At the Plate

Menlo's 2 best hitters on the day were left fielder Jonathan Charboneau and first baseman Sage Pera. Charboneau notched 2 hits on the day from the cleanup spot in the lineup, reaffirming him as a reliable option for the coaching staff in the upper sector of the batting order.

Pera, meanwhile, totaled 2 RBIs on the day. The first came in the top of the 4th, when his sacrifice fly to left field scored Sean Pettener from third base. Then, in the top of the 9th, he blasted a solo home run to right field for his team-leading fourth big fly of the season.
