Menlo Baseball Triumphant Over San Diego Christian College, 4-3

Oaks

ATHERTON, CA

After soggy field conditions resulted in a nearly two-hour delay to first pitch, the Oaks snapped their losing streak with a 4-3 victory over the Hawks. Menlo's overall record is now 5-18, with a 1-6 record in conference play.

Predictable Power from Pera

Menlo's offensive star of the season so far, Sage Pera, delivered again today with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the 1st inning. With 2 outs and Jonathan Charboneau on 2nd base, Pera launched the ball through the trees and onto the street beyond the left field fence.

Pera leads the Oaks in RBIs, with 19, and home runs, with 5. A fan-favorite among the Menlo faithful, he is also a sure-handed first baseman. One of his finest attributes, however, is an infectious enthusiasm that keeps his teammates, and the crowd, engaged throughout the game.

Brilliant Brock

The Oaks' starter today was cannon-armed senior Brock Moore. The right-handed pitcher was excellent throughout his 7.0 innings of work, striking out 8 of the 25 batters he faced. With 40 total strikeouts so far this season, Moore has the fourth-most of all GSAC pitchers.

In addition to his 8 strikeouts, Moore allowed just 2 hits, 1 walk, and no runs. Adding to his impressive display is the fact that even though his pitches can travel well above 90 miles per hour, his velocity remained high throughout the game, even toward the end of his 93-pitch outing.

Dompier Delivers

Menlo's center fielder, Blake Dompier, went 3-3 at the plate today. In the bottom of the 6th inning, his double to left field put a runner in scoring position with 2 outs. The next batter, catcher Matt Leong, sent a single through the left side that brought Dompier across the plate for the Oaks' 4th run of the game. It would prove to be the game-winner.

Dompier currently holds the highest batting average of any Oak, with a mark of .302. His on-base percentage, of .362, is the third-highest among Menlo players.
