Men's Volleyball Falls to Vanguard in 3 at the GSAC Championship Semi-Finals

SURPRISE, CA -- Men's Volleyball finish their tournament run in the Semi-final match against The Vanguard Lions in 3 (25-21, 25-20, 25-16). The #6 Oaks finish their season 15-7 overall and 5-5 in conference play.

Tough Fight With the Lions
It was going to be a fight knowing the #4 Oaks had to take on the #1 Lions once again. Menlo kept it close in each set but Vanguard found a way to close out in 3 sets. Vanguard hit at an impressive .423% landing 42 kills where Menlo was not able to keep up only landing 34 kills at .221%. This is partly because of the Lions ability to block so well, with 8 total blocks. Menlo knows how to rally because they overtake Vanguard in digs with 25, compared to the Lions 23. There is a reason Vanguard is the #1 seed and they showed it today - they can attack and they can block hard!

Seniors Lead in Stats
Edin Ibrahimovic was the kills leader today with 10 hitting at .300%. Not too far behind him was Freshman, Julius Stiemer, with 9 kills, 2 digs, and a  block assist. Despite having only played 2 of the 3 sets due to injury, Konrad Stoklosinski still contributed 7 kills and 6 digs. Chase Direito led the Oaks in hitting percentage at .571 with 4 kills. He also added a solo block and a block assist to the Oaks totals. Christian Menchaca continued to own the libero position, as he has all season, with 5 digs and 2 assists. Lucas Larson dished 27 of the 32 assists while also adding 5 digs, a block assist, and a kill. It may not have fallen in the direction of a Menlo victory, but the Oaks definitely put up a fight and put out another fantastic season in the GSAC.

Up Next....
Since the GSAC is such a competitive conference, they are expected to receive 3 bid's in the National Tournament. This loss puts Menlo in a tough spot to earn any at-large bids. It is still up in the air and the Oaks are hopeful to stay alive, but it will take a lot of help from other matches this weekend to earn a slot. Thank you to the graduating Seniors for such a successful career, if this was their final performance in the Menlo uniform, and all the best to their futures!
