Baseball Drops Road Series Opener to The Master’s, 3-1

ATHERTON, CA

The Oaks are on the road this weekend for a three-game series against the Mustangs, with today's game going the way of the hosts by a final score of 3-1. Menlo's record is now 7-23 overall, and 3-11 in GSAC play.

Two Hot Bats

Hits were at a premium today, with each team finishing with 5. All of the Oaks' hits came from 2 players: center fielder Erik Quinzon, with 2, and third baseman Sean Pettener, with 3.

Quinzon has the second-most hits of any Oak so far this season, with 32. One of his hits, a single in the top of the 7th, set him up to score Menlo's run. The next batter, Sean Pettener, doubled to left field, moving Quinzon to third base. Then, catcher Matt Leong's sacrifice fly to center brought him across home plate.

Quinzon's 18 runs scored are the third-most by a Menlo player this season. Meanwhile, Sean Pettener's double, his 6th of the season, brings him into a tie for the second-most of any Oak this year.

Two Effective Pitchers

Menlo's starter, Brock Moore, was his usual solid self today. Across 5.0 innings and 90 pitches of work, Moore tallied 9 strikeouts while allowing just 4 hits. Those strikeouts put his season total at 64, the second-most among GSAC pitchers. He is just 4 away from the conference's leading pitcher, and has 12 more than the two individuals tied for third.

Moore was relieved by Richard Kiel, who tended to the final 3.0 innings of the game. Kiel threw a total of 34 pitches, striking out 3 batters and allowing just 1 hit and no earned runs. The senior's 16 appearances this season are the most by any Menlo pitcher, and he has notched the most strikeouts of any reliever, with 26.

Up Next
