SANTA CLARITA, CA
The Oaks' bats were smoking hot in Southern California today, but they were unable to win either game against the Mustangs. Their records are now 7-25 overall and 3-13 in conference games.
Game 1: The Master's 18 - 17 Menlo
Menlo's star of the first game of the day was right fielder Blake Dompier. The sophomore from Renton, Washington went 5-6 with 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored. Of his 5 hits, 2 were doubles. The first double, in the top of the 2nd, scored Sean Pettener and Jonathan Charboneau. Dompier's other 2 RBIs came by way of singles in the tops of the 6th and 9th innings.
Another offensive highlight came in the top of the 6th, when left fielder Jonathan Charboneau launched a 3-run home run that also scored Erik Quinzon and Zach Dyer. Charboneau has the third-most RBIs (26) and home runs (4) of all Menlo players after today's games.
Game 2: The Master's 28 - 16 Menlo
The second game of the day saw the Oaks out-hit the Mustangs, 20 to 18. Five Menlo players finished with 3 hits each: center fielder Cooper Paulino, right fielder Raymond Garcia, second baseman Anthony Masetti, third baseman Sean Pettener, and first baseman Jake Koeper.
Of those 5 players, Sean Pettener had the most RBIs, with 5. His biggest hit of the day came in the top of the 3rd. With the bases loaded, Pettener sent a triple to right field, scoring Jonathan Charboneau, Anthony Masetti, and Raymond Garcia. With that hit, Pettener became just the fourth Oak to hit at least 1 triple so far this season.
In the top of the 7th, Jonathan Charboneau hit his second 3-run home run of the day. This time, he brought Anthony Masetti and Raymond Garcia across home plate with him.
Menlo's final relief pitcher of the game, sophomore Anthony Tellez, put in a commendable inning of work. He threw a total of 16 pitches, including 10 strikes, and allowed just 1 hit and no runs while striking out 2 batters.
