ATHERTON, CA
The Oaks and the Firestorm duked it out at Cartan Field on Saturday, with the visitors ultimately prevailing 13-10 after an extra inning of play. Menlo's overall record is now 7-22, with a 3-10 record in conference games.
Magisterial Masetti
The Oaks' star of the day was second baseman Anthony Masetti, who finished 4-6 with 5 RBIs and 3 runs scored. He opened the scoring in the bottom of the 1st inning, when he sent a solo home run onto the street beyond the left field fence. Then, in the bottom of the 6th, he outdid himself with a 2-run shot that nearly cleared the trees along the outfield and brought Raymond Garcia across the plate. His final RBIs came in the bottom of the 7th, when he sent a double to right center field that scored Erik Quinzon and Matt Leong.Â
Masetti now has 24 RBIs so far this season, the second-most among Menlo players. The home runs were his 6th and 7th of the season, just 2 behind the team lead. Those two statistics, along with his team-leading 29 runs scored, 21 walks, and .340 batting average, make him an invaluable asset for the team. As if that wasn't enough, he also has 7 stolen bases to his name.
Hits Up and Down the Lineup
Masetti was just one of the Oaks who had good days at the plate, with 7 of the 9 starters getting at least 1 hit. Left fielder Jonathan Charboneau finished 3-5, including a solo home run in the bottom of the 6th inning for his 18th RBI of the season.
Designated hitter Matthew Leong went 2-5, including an RBI single in the bottom of the 7th that scored Cooper Paulino. Shortstop Zach Dyer notched his 9th and 10th RBIs of the season with a single in the bottom of the 4th and a groundout in the bottom of the 7th, respectively.
