ATHERTON, CA
On a cold and windy afternoon at Cartan Field, the Oaks took the first game of the day, 5-3, over the visiting Firestorm. They then dropped the second, 8-5, after 8 innings. Their overall record is now 7-21, with a 3-9 record in the GSAC.
Game 1: Menlo 5 - 3 Arizona Christian
First baseman Sage Pera was simply sublime at the plate in the Oaks' victory, going 2-4 with 5 RBIs. His first big hit of the day came in the bottom of the 1st inning, when he launched a double into center field that brought Anthony Masetti and Erik Quinzon across the plate. Then, in the bottom of the 5th, he hit his 9th home run of the season, a 3-run shot that also scored Jonathan Charboneau and Erik Quinzon.
By the end of today's games, Pera had a whopping 32 RBIs to his name this season. That is the third-most by any player in the GSAC to this point. His 9 home runs also put him in sole possession of third place on the GSAC leaderboard in that category.
The other crucial element in the Oaks' victory was the performance delivered by starting pitcher Brock Moore. Across 7.0 innings, Moore threw 106 pitches, with an incredible 76 of them being strikes. He totaled 10 strikeouts, and allowed no earned runs while walking just 1 batter.Â
Moore now has the second-most strikeouts among GSAC pitchers, with 55 so far this season.
Game 2: Arizona Christian 8 - 5 Menlo (8 Innings)
The second game of the doubleheader saw even more offense than the first, despite being an inning shorter. Menlo went down 1-0 in the top of the 1st, but quickly got back on level footing in the bottom of the inning when second baseman Anthony Masetti hit a solo home run to left field.Â
The offensive highlight of the game for the Oaks came in the bottom of the 3rd inning, when Jonathan Charboneau stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and hit a 3-run double that put Menlo up 4-2. Later in the inning, Charboneau himself would cross the plate by way of a Sage Pera single.
Four Menlo players totaled 2 hits each in the game: Erik Quinzon, Jonathan Charboneau, Jaxon Hotta, and Zach Dyer. In addition, Anthony Masetti drew 2 walks in the game, putting his season total at 21; that is the second-most among all GSAC players.
