Santa Cruz, CA- Menlo Women's Basketball got back in the win column thanks to a 67-58 road victory over the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs. The Oaks were on the road for their second straight game but still managed to secure the win to get the team back over .500 for the season.
Kiara Brown Post Best Game of the Season
Senior Kiara Brown has put together an outstanding career as a Menlo Oak. Coming off an uncharacteristically off night against Dominican University it was great to see the All-Conference forward return to form against Santa Cruz. For the game she scored 26 points to go along with 12 rebounds and four steals. On a night where the team struggled as a whole from the field, Brown knocked down 67% of her field goal attempts and 5-8 free throws. This will hopefully be a catalyst for Brown to get on a bit of a hot streak and continue to post big games with conference play starting in just a few weeks.
Seniors Step Up
Alongside Brown the veteran duo of Shay Boley and Jordyn Rosette provide a strong impact across the boxscore. Despite her shot not falling at a high clip, Rosette was a force on the defensive side of the ball as usual. She contributed four steals and a game high two blocks. Rosette entered this season in the top five for both single season steals and block totals. She is well on her way for another outstanding defensive campaign.
Shay Boley also put together a complete game while running the point for the Oaks. In her 28 minutes of game time she scored 10 points, swiped three steals, handed out two assists and grabbed three rebounds. She was also efficient when shooting the ball hitting 4-7 attempts from the field. Boley has done an admirable job running the Oaks offense as she is now up to 5.5 assists per game.
Up Next…
The team will get a short time off before being back on the hardwood as Southern Oregon will be making the trip to Haynes-Prim Pavilion for a rematch of last year's game that saw Southern Oregon defeat Menlo. With the momentum of a road victory behind them, look for coach Spataro's squad to make some noise and defend home court!
