Oaks Fall in A Tightly Contested Game to Southern Oregon Raiders 71-68

Atherton, CA-The Oaks took the court against the visiting Southern Oregon Raiders in a tightly contested rematch of last year's game that took place at Southern Oregon's gym. It was a back and forth affair all game long with each team exchanging momentum and big plays across all four quarters of action. Menlo was led by familiar faces in Alberte Frisch, Jasmyne Huggins, Jordyn Rosette and Kiara Brown on a night where the Oaks needed a total team effort in the competitive match. Unfortunately, the Raiders would leave Haynes-Prim Pavilion with a 71-68 victory over the Oaks.

Forwards Carry the Load

Jasmyne Huggins, Jordyn Rosette and Kiara Brown came up big for the Oaks all game long both in scoring in the paint and cleaning the glass as rebounders. Huggins led the Oaks second unit with a highly efficient scoring night. She added 10 points while hitting 4-6 from the free throw line as well as shooting 75% from the floor. Most importantly she was big for the Oaks as a rebounder with seven boards including five in the final quarter of play.

Jordyn Rosette started off relatively quiet but she came alive late in the game including a seven point scoring outburst with two minutes left to play. Rosette would end the game with 13 points on 55% shooting from the floor. On top of her scoring efforts she also chipped in her usual defensive impact that was highlighted by a pair of blocks and a steal.

Lastly, Kiara Brown has found her rhythm on the offensive end and followed up her 26 point outing against UC Santa Cruz with another impressive showing. She posted a game high 21 points with a stellar 63% field goal percentage. Brown scored in a variety of ways including fall away jump shots, finishes through contact and a variety of post moves. She also added eight rebounds and two assists while also committing zero turnovers. Despite the result, seeing Brown put up big numbers bodes well for the Oaks as the season progresses.

Alberte Frisch Catches Fire From Deep

Sophomore guard Alberte Frisch is one of the Oaks premier offensive players, particularly from three point range. In today's match up she posted her top shooting performance of the year with a perfect 100% shooting percentage going 3-3 from deep. Not only was the three ball falling for Frisch but she also kept the Raiders defense on its heels with constant pressure as a ball handler. Frisch has been looking for some stability on the offensive side of the ball and this performance should help her find the range as the season wears on.

Up Next…

It was a tough loss for the Oaks but the team remained competitive throughout and did not quit despite multiple runs from Southern Oregon. Menlo showed a level of grit as they constantly rallied from deficits with multiple players stepping up due to injury and foul trouble. Coach Spataro's team will now head to NCAA Division I Santa Clara University for a game this Sunday before heading to Arizona to partake in the Cactus Classic Tournament.
