Menlo Men’s Soccer Caps Off Undefeated Season with Regular Season Title

Atherton, CA- An outstanding regular season for Menlo Men's Soccer has been capped off with the team winning a regular season championship on their home field! The Oaks head into postseason play having won four straight and finishing 6-0-1 in conference!

Mattia Celant Comes Up Clutch

For the second time in his last three matches Mattia Celant has come up big when the Oaks have needed him most. Last week the junior out of Switzerland scored a game winning goal against Vanguard in the 82nd minute. Today, he would score the lone goal of the match with a beautiful ball placed perfectly into the upper left corner. Celant's recent offensive production has only further highlighted Menlo's team oriented play throughout the year. For the season 13 different players have at least scored one goal and seven players have found the back of the net at least three times. When this offense is firing on all cylinders, coach Lambert has no shortage of quality offensive weapons to call upon.

Defense Remains Dominant

While the offense has continued to produce timely goals, Menlo's defense has been one of the best in the entire conference from start to finish. Earlier this year the team conceded two goals against Jessup while playing up in Rocklin. Those two goals would be the most the Oaks would allow in a single game this year. Today, the team got a measure of revenge shutting out the Warriors while holding them to two shots on goal. Fresh off being named the GSAC Defensive Player of the Week goalkeeper Jo Krumsvik managed two saves while directing Menlo's defense. For the season the Oaks only allowed seven goals and only conceded multiple games one time. With a championship caliber defense, Menlo is poised to make a run in the GSAC Tournament.

Up Next…

With the regular season in the rearview mirror the attention now turns to the GSAC Tournament. Menlo received a first round bye as well as hosting both the semifinals and championship match next Thursday and Saturday respectively. The Oaks have plenty of unfinished business as they look to add more accolades and hardware to an already impressive season!
