ATHERTON, CA – #8 Men's Volleyball hosted Simpson University and UC Merced in a doubleheader home opener! The day began with Menlo playing Simpson at 1pm followed by a 5pm match up between Menlo and UC Merced. The Oaks showed grit today as they defeated both visitors to start the season at 2-0!
In the first match, Menlo fought hard to earn that first set, 25-22. It was back and forth scoring with long rallies from Simpson's setter Nikos Kalagasidis, accounting for more than 85% of the Red Hawks assists. But Menlo feared not, as Edin Ibrahimavic led in kills with 13 and Konrad Stoklosinski tallied 12 kills, hitting at a staggering .579%. The Oaks dominated in the second set, winning 25-16. Edin Ibrahimavic crushed 3 service aces to seal the deal. To close it off, the Oaks took set 3 25-19 to win the match, 3-0.
Just 2 hours later the Oaks took the court once more, this time against RV UC Merced. Another good showing from Edin Ibrahimovic hitting at .364% for 12 kills and Konrad Stoklosinski with 10 kills. Lucas Larson led the Oaks in assists with 58 on the day. Menlo seemed to have control throughout the entire game, winning 25-17, 25-19, and 25-15 for a 3-0 victory.
The Oaks are back in action next Thursday, February 2nd, for a Midwest weekend first taking on RV Lourdes University in Georgetown, Kentucky!
