Sean Coleman

Sean Coleman has joined Coach Rooney’s staff for the coming 2024-2025 Men’s Basketball Season. Coach Coleman comes to Atherton after an extensive basketball career that has spanned every facet of the game. A native of Port Arthur, Texas, Coleman played for one of the top high school programs in the nation at Westbury Christian. In his senior year, Coleman was named a McDonald All-American nominee while leading his team to their third consecutive TAPPS-4A State Championship. Some of his other high school accolades include being selected to the 1st Team All-State squad, the MVP of the TAPPS All-Star game and was the Jaycees Tournament MVP. Coleman would go on to sign with the NCAA Division I University of Tulsa Golden Hurricanes.

Coleman’s collegiate career spanned the University of Tulsa, Blinn College and finally the University of Houston. While at Houston, Coleman helped the Cougars secure the 2010 Conference USA Championship while also earning a starting nod in Houston's 2010 “March Madness” matchup against Maryland. He was selected to the 2009 Conference USA All-Academic team with a major in Sociology.

Before beginning his coaching career, Coleman played professional basketball in Japan and Mexico. He played forward for the Iwate Big Bulls in the Japan-BJ-League and for the Ciudad Victoria Correcaminos in the Mexico-LNBP league.

As a coach, Coleman was most recently an assistant coach at Ranger College. During the 2023-2024 season Coleman helped lead the Rangers to a 17-14 record. He was instrumental in helping Andrew Holifeld and DeMarco Bethea sign Division I offers at Lamar University and Texas A&M Commerce respectively. 

Prior to coaching at Ranger College, coach Coleman was the lead varsity assistant at Port Arthur Memorial high school. During the 2022-2023 season, Coach Coleman helped the Titans to a 30-9 overall record including a 13-1 conference record, good for the second most wins in school history. Port Arthur Memorial  went on to win the 17-5A District Championship, Bi-District and Area Championships, reach the Regional-Semifinals and secured a final ranking of 16th in the state of Texas.
