ATHERTON, CA – Menlo College Women's Soccer battled throughout 90 minutes on Friday afternoon but fell to the Cal State East Bay Pioneers, 0-2, in their first CCAA matchup at home. The Oaks created numerous opportunities throughout the match, but East Bay's defense and seven saves from its goalkeeper kept Menlo off the scoreboard.

Oaks Generate 24 Shots
Menlo came out attacking early, with Judd Eldredge Sagapolutele recording the Oaks' first shot just minutes into the match. Phillips followed with a shot on target in the 11th minute that was saved by East Bay's goalkeeper. The Oaks continued to generate opportunities throughout the opening half, with Avery Grieve, Isabel Amador, Kaiden Rathfon and Jacky Vasquez Lopez all getting involved in the attack.
The Pioneers broke through in the 40th minute to take a 1-0 lead, but Menlo continued to pressure East Bay before halftime. Grieve had a shot blocked shortly after the goal, while the Oaks continued to test the Pioneers' defense. Caroline Cordes also came up with important saves to keep Menlo within one heading into the break.
Menlo continued to create chances in the second half. Phillips struck the woodwork in the 53rd minute before the Oaks earned a penalty kick in the 67th minute. The attempt was saved, as was Phillips' immediate follow-up shot. Menlo kept pushing late, with Nelzy Dominguez forcing a save in the 84th minute and Phillips putting another shot on frame in the 86th minute. East Bay added its second goal in the 62nd minute, securing the 0-2 victory.
