CHICO, CA – Menlo College Men's Soccer battled back from an early two-goal deficit to earn a 2-2 draw against Chico State on Sunday afternoon, closing out CCAA opening weekend with a hard-earned point on the road. After falling behind 0-2 in the opening four minutes, the Oaks answered with goals from Tim Schwarz and Hugo Few to level the match and nearly found a late winner.

Oak Battle Back on the Road
Menlo faced an early two-goal deficit, as Chico State found the back of the net twice in the opening four minutes. The Oaks continued to battle and created several chances of their own throughout the opening half, but entered the halftime break trailing 0-2. Menlo came out firing to open the second half, cutting the deficit just 18 seconds after the restart. Following a poor clearance from Chico State, Hugo Few intercepted the ball inside the box and played it to Tim Schwarz using a back-healed pass, who found the open space on the right side and finished with the outside of his foot to make it a 1-2 match.
The Oaks continued to apply pressure and eventually found the equalizer in the 77th minute. The Oaks found themselves on the attack and switched the point of attack to Janne Spangenberg who was open on the right wing. He sent a cross into the box towards the back post in the direction of Menlo and Chico traffic. Few collected the loose ball and his shot ricocheted into the goal to bring Menlo level at 2-2. Menlo continued to push for a go-ahead goal late, but Chico State's final chances were turned away by the Oaks defense and goalkeeper Jaxon Tonley, who made a key save in the final minute to preserve the draw.
