Oaks Put Up Late Surge in Battle Against the Warriors

ATHERTON, CA – Menlo Men's Volleyball battled in Haynes-Prim Pavilion against Jessup for their second MPSF matchup this season with the Oaks falling in straight sets 18-25, 16-25, 25-27.

Set-by-Set Recap
The opening set saw both teams trade points early, with neither side able to create separation through the first half. Menlo found contributions from multiple attackers, including kills from Keau Thompson and Alexandre Ferdani to keep the score within reach. However, Jessup used a late run fueled by efficient offense and timely blocks to stretch the lead. Despite a small push from the Oaks late in the set, the Warriors closed it out 25-18.

Set two followed a similar pattern, with Menlo battling early before Jessup capitalized on a mid-set surge. The Warriors turned defensive stops into offensive momentum, forcing errors and extending their lead to double digits. The Oaks showed flashes of life behind late kills from Mathias Durfee as he was subbed in to change momentum. However, Jessup remained in control to take the second set 25-16 and go up 2-0.

The third saw Menlo deliver its strongest performance of the night. Joshua Friedman and Durfee were picked to start the set and switched the flow of the game in their favor. Friedman would have a tremendous set with 14 assists while Durfee picked up 4 kills on 5 attempts. With multiple lead changes and extended rallies, Menlo pushed the set deep into extra points. However, Jessup once again executed in key moments, narrowly escaping with a 27-25 win to complete the sweep

Oaks' Top Performances
  • Keau Thompson led the offense with 11 kills on the night and picked up a block assists at the net
  • Alexandre Ferdani would earn 9 kills along with the Oaks' only ace of the night behind two block assists.
  • Mathias Durfee picked up 7 kills on 8 attempts for a .875 hitting percentage
