Strong Shooting From Field, Distance, Foul Line Guides Menlo In First Half
The lead changed hands on nine different occasions in the opening half as field goals were made by both sides on a combined five straight possessions midway through. Senior forwards
Nick High and
JaMaal Unuakhalu knocked down 3-pointers on consecutive trips down the court to cut Fresno Pacific's lead to one then 11 unanswered points from Menlo built a 36-28 advantage. Sophomore guard
Kai Brown had five points in the surge, but by halftime the Sunbirds had cut it down to a one-point contest at 36-35.
Five quick points put FPU back in front early in the second half yet a jumper by High had the score even at 50-50 approaching the final 10 minutes of action. An Unuakhalu three-point play conversion tied things up moments later, but two separate 5-0 runs by the home team created a bit of separation ahead of three consecutive triples to break the game open. Down by 12 with just under three minutes to go, the Oaks did not have enough time to rally once more, falling 79-64 in the end.
