ATHERTON, CA – Menlo Men's Basketball more than stepped up to the challenge of facing the Pacific West Conference's lone undefeated team, shooting over 55 percent from the field in a dominant 75-68 victory over Concordia on Monday inside Haynes-Prim Pavilion.
"After our last game against Point Loma, we had a high-intensity practice and we talked about bringing that same energy today," said Head Coach
Jamison Montgomery. "Concordia is a well-coached, defensive-led team and we did a great job of being composed, trusting each other with the basketball, and just being the team that wanted it a little bit more."

Devon Woods, and freshman guard
Jamison "JD" Beesley initiated a game-changing 13-0 run just over three minutes into the contest as senior forward
Nick High's five points capped the Menlo momentum shift for a 15-6 lead. A fastbreak dunk from Thompson and subsequent layup by High helped push the margin to double digits and that difference would maintain for the next 10 minutes when Thompson struck at the rim once again.
"First and foremost, it's about being together and being connected," Montgomery said. "We were the more connected team on the offensive and defensive side. [Concordia] went on runs, but we did a good job of staying together."
An 11-3 response from the undefeated Golden Eagles helped keep them close, but the Oaks did not relent as High converted a layup at the halftime buzzer for a 35-30 lead. On three different occasions in the second half, Concordia cut the Menlo advantage to four, but the Oaks responded each time with Woods hitting a 3-pointer early on, High getting to the rim midway through, and sophomore guard
Jonathan Moxie cashing a three-point play in the final minute.
During those fluctuations, Menlo went on an 11-0 run finished by freshman forward
Luke Wieskamp's triple yet CUI promptly responded with a 13-2 burst to threaten late before Moxie's clutch conversion. Woods calmly hit five of six free throws in the final 20 seconds to fend off the Golden Eagles as the Oaks wrapped up a huge home win 75-68.
"Devon is an awesome young man like the rest of our group," Montgomery said. "He played a great game and with me being a guy who played point guard, I challenge the point guards to get better every single day in practice. He's done a great job of rising to that occasion."

Haynes-Prim Pavilion will be the site for the Oaks' next contest hosting Hawaii Pacific this Thursday, Jan. 8 at 7:30 p.m.
"This just shows the kind of team that we can be and what we're capable of playing together one possession at a time," Montgomery said. "Hopefully we can build off this win and continue to grind in 2026."
