Eight Ties, 17 Lead Changes Mark Oscillating Contest
After both offenses worked to find a rhythm in the first quarter, graduate student guard
Laila Saenz knocked down two 3-pointers in her first five minutes off the bench as Menlo went on an 8-2 run before Jessup responded in the final minute to make it just a one-point difference moving to the second frame.
The first half saw a grand total of 14 lead changes with another Saenz triple coming between four points from sophomore forward
Zoe Carrillo to fuel a 7-0 run that helped give the Oaks a 29-28 halftime advantage.
Senior guard
Alberte Frisch put in six quick points during a 17-7 start to the third quarter that had Menlo in front by 11 points. Saenz, who started the game 5-for-5 from the field, hit her fourth triple to cap the run and soon a layup by Carrillo sent the Oaks into the third up 48-39.
That margin held through the seven-minute mark in the fourth when Jessup suddenly initiated a 15-4 surge that saw the Warriors claim their first lead since midway through the second quarter. That advantage was quickly lost with Carrillo's three-point play counterpunch, but after a free throw by senior guard
Mehkia Applewhite tied things up at 60-60, a clutch 3-pointer and free throws down the stretch closed the 68-64 Warrior victory.
