Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Oaks’ Third Straight PacWest Triumph Features Dominance Inside

ATHERTON, CA – Saturday featured another impressive performance for Menlo Women's Basketball who, despite trailing by seven after one quarter, rallied back inside their own Haynes-Prim Pavilion with every Oak scoring as the duo of senior guard Alberte Frisch and redshirt freshman guard/forward Kimberly Ceron-Romero combined for 40 points to propel the 67-61 Pacific West Conference victory and a three-game win streak.

Alberte Frisch"We weathered the storm initially early then started defending better and our offense started flowing better," said Head Coach Shannon Spataro.

Oaks Highlights
-Continuing to lead the PacWest in scoring, Alberte Frisch poured in 26 points while adding six rebounds and five assists
-Kimberly Ceron-Romero made it season-highs in back-to-back games with 14 points and eight rebounds off the bench
-An impressive complete line saw Zoe Carrillo deliver nine points, six rebounds, four assists, two blocks, and one steal

Menlo Shoots Nearly 50 Percent From The Field, Scoring 30 Points In The Paint
Though UH Hilo had the first six points of the day, Menlo worked the score back to even at 14-14 on a jumper by Frisch. She had another layup soon after, but two 3-pointers in the final 40 seconds enabled the visitors to end the opening quarter up 23-16.

That margin was quickly cut down, however, with Ceron-Romero's two layups leading the bench unit. Graduate student forward Frida Schmidt's triple sparked seven unanswered from the Oaks then, following another pair of Ceron-Romero layups, four quick Frisch points made it 38-34 Menlo at the half.

All on buckets by Frisch, the Oaks extended the margin to seven points multiple times in the third quarter then Schmidt's triple pushed it to double digits to begin the fourth. Long range success helped keep the Vulcans within striking distance down the stretch, but key scores by sophomore forward Zoe Carrillo combined with three Frisch free throws in the late stages of what became a 67-61 victory.

"Alberte was aggressive today and efficient as well so that's always great to see," Spataro said.
