Despite Statistical Edge, Oaks Unable to Find Equalizer
Menlo generated the first offensive chances of the evening, as Kawai Acopan and Kaylin Gonzalez forced early stops from the Stanislaus State goalkeeper. The Warriors responded in the 16th minute, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead. The Oaks continued to press forward, with shots from Verenia Gonzalez and Liv Brunzell forcing additional saves, but Menlo entered halftime trailing by one.
The Oaks remained on the front foot in the second half, producing several quality chances. Acopan, Angie St. Denis, and Sarah Naumu each had opportunities to level the match, while Menlo's midfield and back line prevented the Warriors from building momentum in transition. Melcore delivered a strong performance in goal, making four saves, including two in quick succession midway through the half to keep the Oaks within reach.
Statistically, Menlo outshot Stanislaus State 10-6, including a 6-5 margin in shots on goal, and controlled set pieces with a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks. Despite the offensive pressure, the Oaks were unable to capitalize and concluded the match with a narrow 0-1 defeat. Menlo moves to 1-1-1 overall to begin the 2025 season.
