Oaks Drop Doubleheader to Dominican on Senior Day

ATHERTON, CA – Menlo Softball celebrated their six graduating seniors with one final PacWest Conference doubleheader at Wunderlich Field. The Oaks would fall to the Penguins of Dominican University in both games despite a strong start and a gutsy performance to end the season.

Oaks Standout Performances
Emma Medina: 3-7, 1 Run
Bella Cortez: 3-7, 1 Run
Sydney Costello: 3-6, 2 RBIs
Jolena Velasquez: 3-6, 1 Run

Game 1 | Menlo 2 – Dominican 7
Dominican wasted no time jumping ahead in game one, scoring two early runs to put them in the lead. The Oaks would answer back in the third inning after Jolena Velasquez opened up with a double, leading to RBIs from Aletha Buchner and Grace Christian to make 3-2.

However, Dominican broke the game open in the fifth inning where the Penguins would end up scoring 4 to make it a four-run ballgame. Despite Medina, Cortez, and Christian all connecting with the bat, the Oaks were unable to find the momentum needed to make the comeback.

Game 2 | Menlo 3 – Dominican 5
In game two, the Oaks came out swinging after Dominican plated one run in the top of the first. The Oaks capitalized on several Dominican errors in the bottom half, as Gabrielle Rodriguez would earn a RBI single and a two-run error that gave the Oaks a 3-1 lead.

Despite holding a strong lead through the middle of the game, Dominican mounted a strong comeback, plating four runs in the final inning of the day to take a 5-3 lead. Menlo would threaten the Penguins in the seventh inning but couldn't bring across the tying run.
