SAN RAFAEL, CA – Menlo Softball took a road trip north to face Dominican University in a doubleheader on Saturday. Unfortunately, the Oaks fell short in both contests, dropping each game in six innings. Despite good appearances from select Oaks, the team collectively struggled to put together clutch play and pull off any comeback.
Key Oaks Against Dominican:
Game 1: Menlo 2, Dominican 10 (6 Innings)
The Oaks started strong, picking up a pair of hits in the first inning with Tacia Kahalewai reaching on a single and Alexandra Attard doubling down the left-field line. However, Menlo was unable to push a run across, stranding two on base. Dominican responded in the second inning with a four-run burst. Menlo got on the board in the third when Grace Christian doubled to right center and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Emma Medina, cutting the deficit to 4-1.
Dominican kept the pressure on, adding four more runs in the third inning and extending their lead to 8-1. Menlo managed one more run in the fifth when Aliya Lubrin reached on a bunt single and later scored on a Medina single. However, the Penguins secured the win in the bottom of the sixth, scoring twice to enforce the run-rule victory at 10-2.
Game 2: Menlo 0, Dominican 9 (6 Innings)
In the second game, Menlo struggled to generate offense against Dominican's pitching. The Oaks picked up their first hit in the opening inning when Medina singled to left field, but Dominican quickly took control with a four-run bottom of the first. Menlo's best scoring opportunity came in the fourth when Attard singled and reached second on a defensive error, but the Oaks were unable to capitalize. Meanwhile, Dominican continued to build their lead, adding two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings.
Despite strong defensive moments, the Oaks couldn't contain the Penguins' offense, and the game ended in the sixth inning via run rule after Dominican extended their lead to 9-0.
