19-Point Second Half Edge Propels Menlo To Home Win
After an 8-8 tie early on, the Oaks authored a 7-0 run in which graduate student forward
Frida Schmidt nailed a 3-pointer ahead of baskets by senior guard
Alberte Frisch and sophomore forward
Zoe Carrillo. Menlo led by four to begin the second quarter and, though the difference was just one soon after, sophomore forward
Taylor Westbrook offered four points to start a 10-0 surge that featured back-to-back Saenz triples.
Hitting her third 3-pointer in less than two minutes, Saenz helped keep the margin in double figures before four long range shots by the Warriors came in the final five minutes of the quarter to make it a 38-34 ballgame at the half.
The first 10 points of the third quarter belonged to the Oaks as Frisch, Schmidt, and Carrillo guided the offense. Up by as many as 13 on a transition 3-pointer from Frisch, Menlo never saw its lead dip below double digits the rest of the way. Senior guard
Mehkia Applewhite converted a three-point play in the first minute of the fourth and soon a 14-1 push helped seal the eventual 83-60 victory for the Oaks.
