Season Highs Abound In Menlo’s 87-80 Victory At UC Santa Cruz

SANTA CRUZ, CA – Quickly finding their rhythm shooting from distance on Tuesday inside West Field House, Menlo Women's Basketball knocked down a season-high 12 3-pointers en route to an 87-80 win over UC Santa Cruz.

Oaks Highlights
-Alberte Frisch erupted for a season-high 27 points including six 3-pointers
-Hitting four triples, Frida Schmidt poured in a season-best 12 points
-Angel Allen & Jayonnah Carter also scored in double figures, adding 10 points apiece

The Oaks' offense converted quite regularly on their end of the court in the early going as free throws and a triple by senior guard Jayonnah Carter came along with buckets by sophomore forward Zoe Carrillo and freshman guard Angel Allen to compose a 9-0 run. Menlo never trailed the rest of the way in the contest with Allen and sophomore forward Taylor Westbrook both converting high-percentage looks while graduate student forward Frida Schmidt added her second 3-pointer of the quarter.

Up 25-16 heading to the second, the Oaks pushed the margin to as many as 15 midway through during a stretch highlighted by senior guard Alberte Frisch's triple and a three-point play from Carter. Though UC Santa Cruz had it down to six following an 8-2 end to the half, Menlo pushed the difference back to 15 late in the third on a 10-0 surge in which the Banana Slugs attempted just one shot.

Frisch's sixth 3-pointer of the game began the fourth with the Oaks up 68-50 and soon five quick points from redshirt freshman guard Nadia Brown pushed her team's largest lead at 20 points. The final three minutes were a challenge as UCSC used a 13-0 burst to cut it to single digits before Carter and Allen free throws helped seal the 87-80 win.
