PacWest Weekly Awards (Nov. 24)
LONG BEACH, CA – After one reached a career milestone and the other joined the conference's all-time leaders, Menlo Women's Basketball senior guards
Alberte Frisch and
Jayonnah Carter were named Pacific West Conference Player and Defender of the Week respectively.
Achieving On Both Ends Of The Court
Providing an offensive spark for Menlo in addition to fueling the Oaks' aggressive defense, Frisch scored 15 points (including 4-for-4 at the free throw line) while adding a season-best five steals plus two rebounds, two assists, and one block in the team's 74-63 victory hosting Cal State East Bay on
Nov. 20. That effort was followed by a season-best 23 points (including 8-for-8 from the foul line) with six rebounds, three steals, and two assists versus Chico State on
Nov. 22 in a game highlighted by her moment becoming the ninth Oak in Menlo history to score 1,000 career points.
Frisch ended up averaging 19.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.0 steals, and 2.0 assists per game for the week while going a perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line. Just two weeks into the season, Frisch currently ranks third in the PacWest in points per game (17.5) and free throw percentage (.952) as well as fourth in steals per contest (3.8).
Absolutely locked in defensively throughout Menlo's two games, Carter began by collecting 12 steals, the second-most single-game total in PacWest history, in the win over CSUEB on
Nov. 20. With no fewer than three steals in each of the second, third, and fourth quarters of the contest, the Oakland native led the Oaks' comeback. Carter did not slow down two days later, racking up six more thefts plus a block and three defensive rebounds versus Chico State on
Nov. 22.
A truly memorable week saw Carter average 9.0 steals (18 in two contests), 3.5 defensive rebounds, and 0.5 blocks per game. She currently owns the most steals in NCAA Division II (21) and leads the PacWest in steals per game (5.3).
