Oaks Nearly Force Extra Sets In Late Surge Against Chaminade

HONOLULU, HI – In their second match of the Hawaii road trip, Menlo Women's volleyball made a late push against Chaminade but came up short, dropping the match in three sets 19-25, 15-25, and 22-25.

Oaks Highlights
  • Janet Moala recorded her 200th career block assist in the third set, the second Oak ever to achieve this feat
  • Emily Licon recorded her 13th game with 10+ digs this season
  • Fuka Kikuchi led the Oaks offense with 13 kills on the night

Moala Hits the Record Books
The opening set was a back-and-forth fight, with the Oaks and Silverswords trading momentum. Junior outside hitter Fuka Kikuchi sparked a four-point run with three kills to pull the Oaks within one at 17-18, but Chaminade answered back with a late surge to close the set 19-25. In the second, the Oaks picked up blocks from senior middle blocker/opposite Maya Saole-Su'e, sophomore outside hitter/opposite Avery Krebill, freshman setter Jolianna Salazar, and senior middle blocker Janet Moala to slow Chaminade, however the Silverswords managed to capture nine of the final 10 points to move themselves up two sets to none.

After sets controlled by Chaminade in their home gym, the Oaks changed the momentum of the gym in their favor. Kills from Saole-Su'e, Moala and Kikuchi pushed Menlo up to a 14-11 lead. Moala became just the second Oak ever to reach 200 career block assists, picking one up that put the Oaks ahead 17-16 with the help from freshman outside hitter/opposite Kate Ross. A late block by and kill by Krebill increased the Oaks lead 22-19, looking to extend the match. However, Chaminade answered again, putting up a six-point stretch to close out the evening.
