LONG BEACH, CA – Menlo College senior forward Aaliyah Grigsby has been named the PacWest Conference Player of the Week, becoming the second player in program history to earn a conference weekly award. The recognition comes after a stellar final week of the 2025 season, where Grigsby scored in back-to-back matches to cap off her collegiate career.
Strong Finish to the Season
The Oaks wrapped up their 2025 campaign in memorable fashion, beginning with a monumental 1-0 upset victory over Azusa Pacific University, the PacWest regular-season champions, on Thursday evening. In the 23rd minute, Menlo capitalized on their momentum. Judd Eldredge Sagapolutele lofted a well-placed ball into the box toward Allison Canchola, whose aggressive positioning drew the Cougar goalkeeper off her line. With the defense scattered, Canchola quickly slipped a pass across the goalmouth to Grigsby, who calmly tapped it in for the 1-0 lead, a goal that stood as the game-winner.
Two days later, the Oaks took on Vanguard University in their season finale, falling just short in a 1-2 battle. Menlo opened the match with energy and possession, generating multiple scoring chances in the early minutes. In the 40th minute, Aaliyah Alatorre delivered one of her signature long throw-ins into the box, finding Grigsby, who converted for her second goal in as many games. Despite a strong start, two second-half goals from the Lions would ultimately decide the contest.
Leadership and Legacy
Since transferring to Menlo in 2024 from Jessup University, Grigsby, a native of Stockton, California, has been a consistent and reliable presence for the Oaks. Her dedication, composure, and positivity have left a lasting impact on both her teammates and coaches. "Aaliyah has been such a steady and positive influence since joining our program," said Head Coach Matthew Kemp. "Her attitude, leadership, and determination set the tone for our group every single day. For her to finish her career with this recognition is something truly special and well-deserved."
Grigsby will graduate this spring with a degree in Sports Management, leaving behind a legacy defined by leadership, growth, and perseverance. Her two goals in the final week of the season earned her a fitting recognition as the PacWest Player of the Week, closing her Menlo career on a high note.
