LONG BEACH, CA - Menlo College senior goalkeeper Martin Fiala has been named the PacWest Conference Defender of the Week for the third time this season, announced Monday by the conference office. The honor comes in the final week of the regular season, recognizing Fiala's standout performances in the Oaks' last two matches of 2025.

Lockdown Performances on the Road
Menlo closed its PacWest schedule on the road last week, first traveling to Azusa Pacific University on Thursday evening in a tightly contested matchup that ended in a 0-0 draw. Fiala was a commanding presence in goal, recording five saves across 90 minutes and making crucial back-to-back stops in the 16th and 17th minutes to deny the Cougars from close range and preserve the clean sheet.
Two days later, the Oaks faced Vanguard University in Costa Mesa for their regular season finale. Despite a hard-fought effort in a 0-1 defeat, Fiala once again delivered an exceptional performance between the posts. The senior produced several key second-half saves and capped his collegiate career with a highlight-reel penalty save in the 87th minute, keeping Menlo within striking distance until the final whistle.

A Legacy Between the Posts
Fiala's third PacWest weekly honor cements his place as one of the conference's premier goalkeepers and a cornerstone of the Menlo defense. Known for his poise, leadership, and shot-stopping ability, Fiala leaves behind a legacy of excellence and consistency that has defined his Menlo career. Originally from the Czech Republic who transferred to Menlo in 2024 from Norco College, Martin's outstanding play earned him recognition as a 2024 PacWest All-Conference Second Team selection. Off the field, Martin continues to make an impact as a member of the Student Government Association and through his academic achievements, including earning 1st place at the Global Scaling Challenge alongside teammate Lars Faessler. He will be graduating with a degree this spring in Finance and a 4.0 GPA.Â
"Martin has been the backbone of our team all season," said Head Coach Keith Lambert. "His work ethic, leadership, and competitive spirit have elevated everyone around him. The recognition is well-deserved and a fitting way to close out an incredible career."
As the regular season concludes, the Oaks reflect on a campaign marked by resilience, growth, and memorable performances—none more impactful than those of their senior leader in goal.
