Final Two Sets See Oaks With Efficient Hitting
Multiple kills from junior outside hitter
Fuka Kikuchi and senior middle blocker
Janet Moala helped Menlo jump out to a 10-6 lead to start the match, but a 5-0 Jessup run was soon followed by another 4-0 push that put the Warriors in position to come away 25-18 victors. That momentum shift gave way to an 8-2 beginning to the second set as Jessup later used a 6-0 burst to power their 25-11 result.
In the third set, an 8-1 run highlighted by kills from Kikuchi, senior middle blocker/opposite
Maya Saole-Su'e, and freshman outside hitter
Dayjah McFadden took the Oaks from down one point to up five at 13-8. McFadden soon sent down back-to-back kills from different teammates to maintain the margin and Kikuchi ultimately put the finishing touches on a 25-19 final with a kill followed by a service ace.
Though the home team held a five-point advantage early in the fourth frame, that difference was steadily cut down until three unanswered points (including two McFadden kills) tied things at 22-22. In the end, Jessup had just enough to take the last three points, securing the conference win on a 25-22 score.
