SAN FRANCISCO, CA — In a groundbreaking achievement for Menlo College Men's Soccer, the Oaks secured a historical 3-1 victory over San Francisco State in their first NCAA Division II match, held at Cox Stadium. The match not only marked Menlo's debut in NCAA DII competition but also showcased the team's remarkable talent and determination having scored all three goals from set-pieces.
Menlo Creating Magic on the Pitch
The Oaks demonstrated exceptional prowess on the field, with goals scored by Isak Haukefaer, Luis Politron, and Eder Carrasco. Haukefaer set the tone early, finding the back of the net in the 26th minute after a corner kick first found the head of David Stuber who set up Isak perfectly for a header goal. Politron extended Menlo's lead in the 55th minute after returning to the pitch form halftime, with a crucial assist coming from Sebastian Lopez off of a corner kick. Carrasco sealed the victory with an assurance goal in the 68th minute, once again assisted by Lopez for the second time this match.
In addition to the offensive fireworks, goalkeeper Martin Fiala made a standout performance in his official debut with the Oaks. Fiala recorded three vital saves and distributed the ball well around the field. David Stuber and Luis Politron were the Oaks starting center backs and were successful in holding the team together. They each played the full 90 minutes, contributing on all cylinders and even earning an assist and a goal.
