Oaks Softball Completes Their 2024 Season in Lincoln After Dropping Both Ends of Doubleheader to Jessup

LINCOLN, CA –  Menlo Softball took the trip up to Jessup University for their final regular-season doubleheader against the Warriors. The #7 nationally ranked GSAC foes pulled off the sweep over Menlo after 12 innings pitched. The Oaks complete their season with a 14-30 overall record, 3-17 in conference play. Menlo Softball will now turn to prepare for NCAA Division II play in the PacWest Conference!

Game 1: Menlo 1 - 9 (5 Innings)

Menlo struggled to get offense going during both games today. In game one, the Oaks knocked down 3 hits, with one scoring a single run across home plate. Grace Christian, a graduate student out of Modesto, CA, was a leader all season and was the one to score for Menlo. First, Christian earned a singled up the middle in the top of the 2nd, but she was left on base after a fly out. After going down 0-5 in the 5th inning, Menlo had to leave it all out on the field. Grace was walked to lead off the first inning and then stole second base. Makayla Mentzer followed with a hard single to the pitcher to advance Grace to third and put runners in scoring position for Grace Tuiteleleapaga who was up to bat next. The freshman third baseman hit a fly out to right field, allowing Grace to tag up and come home safely. Unfortunately, the Oaks could not hold off the Warriors from applying the mercy rule after 5 innings played with a 1-9 final score.

Game 2: Menlo 1 - 8

Game two was kicked off by a lead-off triple to right center from senior second baseman Jolena Velasquez. Emma Medina was able to get the ball in play following, but forced a fielder's choice where the Warriors successfully put out Velasquez at home. The Oaks single run came in the 3rd inning. Center fielder Aliya Lubrin singled to third base to begin the inning and then immediately stole second base. An Oak strikeout would lead to Lubrin to attempt and successfully steal third base to get herself in scoring position. Once again, Emma Medina hit a hard hit to the first baseman and forced an error, scoring Lubrin and shifting momentum towards the Oaks dugout. Jessup took matters in their own hands and held Menlo at the one run, while adding 8 to the scoreboard.

With the two losses today, Menlo is not eligible for the GSAC Championship Tournament and the season will end today. Menlo will get to see Jessup in the Division II era as they are also on the same track to transition into the PacWest Conference.
