San Diego,CA-It has been an unpredictable start to the season for Menlo Men's Tennis due to constant inclement weather. Thankfully, with the Oaks hitting the road, the team was able to take on NCAA Division II Fresno Pacific down in San Diego. It would be a close match coming down to the final point but the Oaks would manage a 4-3 victory in large part due to the contributions of new faces on the roster.
New Oaks Come Up Big on the Road
Menlo would secure the doubles point winning two of three matches. Yet, when singles play began it was clear this would be a close, down to the wire battle between the two programs. Thankfully, a trio of new Oaks would pick up clutch wins to help the team edge out a victory! Robin Mcalpine,Asger Ildor and Tanguy Calicis would each win their singles matches to score three of the teams four points. IIdor would be the first Oak to win an individual match in quick fashion. He would win both his sets by a score of 6-4 keeping his opponent at bay all match long. Robin Mcalpine and Tanguy Calicis would finish back to back to give Menlo the victory with both players winning their matches in just two sets. Both would need overtime points to win the first set as they both held on to win 7-6. Yet, once their second sets got underway they simply elevated themselves over their Fresno Pacific opponents in decisive manner. Mcalpine would win his second set 6-1 while Calicis won 6-2.
