The 3rd inning brought in two more runs for Menlo with a Jolena Velasquez triple to right center and another single up the middle, this time from Alexia Lozano. An error in the 4th inning handed the Oaks one more run before Menlo was able to finish the ball game in 6 innings. Maya Bivens-Sommerville had a 2 RBI single through the right side to bring home Emma Medina and Aliya Lubrin to make the score 10-1.
Menlo's starting pitcher was Shelby White who has now started twice this season. Brianna did her job and got three strikeouts to close the game and secure the win!
Game 2: Menlo 4 - 2 Westcliff
The Westcliff Warriors kept it close in the second game of the weekend. The Warriors gained an early 0-2 lead over the Oaks in the 1st inning. It was not long before Menlo responded. Aliya Lubrin made it on base after being walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Emma Medina singled to right field to bat Lubrin in to make it 1-2. Jolena Velasquez earned her second triple of the day leading off the bottom of the 2nd inning. Alexia Lozano forced a fielding error to score Velasquez and even the score at 2-2. Bella Cortez was the Oak who was able to earn the go-ahead single down the left field line to score Lozano and ultimately secure the lead moving forward. One final run in the 6th inning scored by Sofia Quintero off of another single from Lozano would end the game, 4-2.
Shelby White started the game and went one inning before Madison Nelson came to save the day. Nelson pitched the rest of the 6 innings and totaled up 3 strikeouts to get the job done. Nelson is now 2-1 this season and has shown great control of the circle so far in her Menlo career!
