ROCKLIN, CA - Menlo Men's Soccer triumphed in a thrilling 1-0 victory over Jessup University on the road, marking an intense first meeting in the new home of both programs as part of the NCAA DII PacWest Conference. Temperatures reached past 100 degrees on the astroturf surface which played a huge factor for both teams. In the end, the Oaks were able to earn the shutout and walk away with another three points in conference.
David Stuber's Second Game-Winning Goal in Two Matches
David Stuber stepped up again as the hero for Menlo, scoring his second consecutive game-winning goal. In the 28th minute, Menlo earned a corner kick which resulted in a foul in the box committed by the Warriors defender. Stuber capitalized on the penalty kick opportunity once more, sending the ball past Jessup's goalie to put Menlo up 1-0. This penalty goal would account for David's third total penalty of the season. He is proven consistent with finding the back of the net with his technical penalty-taking abilities. This early lead set the tone, with Menlo defending fiercely to preserve their advantage. Goalkeeper Martin Fiala held strong with three crucial saves, securing a well-earned shutout for Menlo.
Oak Standouts
Menlo's standout performers led the way both offensively and defensively. David Stuber's precise penalty shot goal clinched the win, making it his second game-winner in just as many matches. Goalkeeper Martin Fiala's solid performance was pivotal, recording three saves and a shutout. Defenders Roy Rosenberg and Donald Holliday made key contributions on defense, while Andres Maldonado and Ryan Branigan each logged shots on goal, pressuring Jessup's backline throughout the game.
The match would become intense as there were 10 cautions booked throughout the 90 minutes, equally split 5 to each team. Unfortunately Branigan would accumulate two yellow cards, ejecting him from the match and the next game. The match was fairly defensive with the Oaks only firing off 6 shots, 4 on goal. Menlo earned 3 corner kicks and had to defend 5 that were given up to the Warriors. Thankfully, a strong defensive line was able to clear the box each time from the Oaks.
